Grand Opening of Community Pantry Designed by GSRA

This past Monday the North Texas Food Bank, in partnership with Catholic Charities Dallas and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of North Texas, opened the Jan Pruitt Community Pantry in Lancaster. The renovation of this facility, along with other North Texas Food Bank facilities, was designed by our team here at GSR-Andrade. The late North Texas Food Bank CEO is it’s namesake.

The goal of the North Texas Food Bank is to provide meals for the nearly 800,000 people in North Texas who don’t know where their next meal will come from.  GSR-Andrade is proud to work with an amazing organization that does so much for our community.

About the Facility

The 3,100 square foot building was formerly a clothing donation center for the St. Vincent De Paul Church. It was renovated to include a walk-in freezer and cooler, and pallets for food distribution.  The purpose of the facility is to allow members of the community to access groceries at no cost. The total cost of construction was $750,000.

The pantry interior is set up like a supermarket. It allows persons in need of assistance the opportunity to shop around for what they need, which is becoming an increasingly common setup. The design allows community members a more dignified experience.

This facility is expected to provide the Lancaster and surrounding areas with more than one million pounds of food per year by year three of its operation. According to their website, these numbers are just a part of the North Texas Food Bank’s broader goal to serve more than 90 million meals by 2025.
